bob dylan and his electrifying band blazed through the fox theater in detroit friday night. together, they played a strong set of songs, including beyond here lies nothing, desolation row, and the ballad of a thin man. perhaps acknowledging the day's announcement that the nation's unemployment rate had reached 10.2 percent, dylan included workingman's blues #2 late in the set. dylan definitely put on a great show in detroit--good sound and vocals to match the amazing grandeur of the theater. i suspect that there will be several more good shows as his tour, which started in the pacific northwest, heads into canada and eventually on to new york city. spending the evening with dana was a real treat, especially since we both so enjoyed the show from the fifth row as well as the deal on cold ghetto blasters at union street beforehand.06 November 2009
